Originally from Germany, Matthias came to the United States at the age of 21 to pursue a career in music. From age 21 – 25, he traveled around the world, visiting 16 countries on three continents, including over 40 states, and staying with approximately 250 host families during that time.
From age 25 – 28, he returned to Germany to continue his dream of being a musician. At age 28, Matthias decided to enroll in an American University and graduated 2 years later with three undergraduate degrees. From 2002 – 2007, he worked at a national financial services company, in the end as Director of Wholesale Services and Manager of Secondary Markets. During this time, he earned his MBA in finance by attending night classes for 18 months.
From 2007 – 2015, he was a full-time Instructor of Business at a local University, while simultaneously being a full-time Ph.D. student, earning a doctorate in strategy and finance in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. From 2015 – 2018, he was the Chief Financial Officer for GPS Education Partners, a local non-profit whose mission is to create youth apprenticeship opportunities in manufacturing for high school students. From 2018 – 2021, Matthias was the Director of Operations for CornerStone One, a local construction company with approximately 100 employees, and he helped grow that company from $20M to $35M.
In early 2021, Matthias decided to start his own company, Heja Consulting, and focus on executive and business coaching, business operating system implementation, and fractional CFO /COO work.
Matthias lives with his much-better half, Kay, their three children, two cats, and two dogs in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and remains an avid fan of Borussia Dortmund… Der geilste Verein der Welt!
